Savio AC in Team Malta

After a very promising season at home, it was time for the leading Maltese athletes to go to the next level and perform on the international stage. The first of these competitions was the 16^th Games of the Small States of Europe, which took place in Iceland. In these games Malta placed 7^th and took in 32 Medals.

For all of us watching from home, the highlight of the games was Matthew Croker’s 800m run. Despite the horrible conditions, he clocked in a time of 02:01.65.

The next major international competition was the first edition of the European Games, held in Azerbaijan. The large contingent of Maltese athletes proved successful in obtaining various medal positions. In the 800m race, all eyes were again on Matthew Croker, who clocked in a very good 1.56.89. Matthew Croker also ran a very good second leg in the men’s 4x400m relay.
